I just found out that my good friend Siobhan has nominated me for a Liebster Blog award! Thank you Siobhan! And yep, I had to look it up…

It seems it’s more of a pay it forward good vibe scheme than an actual award per se, and like many such things on the Internet, it spreads and evolves so fast that it soon becomes difficult to pin down the origins. The sentiment however has remained much the same: to encourage and highlight bloggers with less than a few hundred followers as ‘ones to watch’ and of course to have some fun doing so.

The rules (as passed down to me!) are as follows:
– List 11 facts about yourself
– Answer 11 questions
– Nominate 11 bloggers who have 200 followers or less
– Ask them 11 questions
– Go to each bloggers’ page and let them know that you’ve nominated them

And so without further ado…

11 facts about me:

  • I was named by my two elder brothers after Adam Ant
  • I am an atheist
  • I have an advanced PADI Open Water Scuba Diving qualification
  • I am a Japanophile
  • I was once in the same room as Jackie Chan (a childhood hero of mine)
  • I have held a scorpion
  • I have next to no cartilage in my nose and therefore it is very squadgy
  • I have swum with dolphins
  • I was excluded from classes in school for bleaching my hair
  • I have messed up guts (better known as ‘mal-rotation of the bowel’): when I was about 10 I had to have an operation on my intestine and the surgeons decided to remove my appendix at the same time “in case they couldn’t find it again”
  • I once tried to grow my hair long. AND WILL NEVER SPEAK OF IT AGAIN.

Why did you start blogging?
A genuinely difficult question for me! I think I fancied myself a bit of a writer, and thought I had something to say. I then discovered that my ability to procrastinate and obsess over the quality of my posts meant that I only ever wrote anything when I had a massive gripe about something! This is why my first few posts span over an entire year and are all vitriolic rants. I’ve tried to take a different approach in the last few months and have definitely enjoyed it more… But that’s not to say I still don’t like a damn good rant!

If you could eat lunch anywhere in the world where would you go and what would you have?
I would probably go to Osaka and have Okonomiyaki as I’ve not had it since I was last there in 2005 and I remember it being amazing. I am slightly worried it won’t be as good as I remember though! Oh and UK Japanese restaurants: please start serving this dish!!!

What is your favourite quote?
A difficult one for sure! I’m not really one for memorising things like that (I’m reading the question to mean more of a memorable, thought provoking or inspirational quote, rather than favourite line from something!). I confess I’ve just looked up some thought provoking quotes and found this one which struck me:

Don’t say you don’t have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michaelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein.

– H. Jackson Brown, Jr.
Although frankly that quote doesn’t make me feel great about my life and its achievements!

As for something a bit more light-hearted, here’s my favourite quote from Red Dwarf:

Who would put this man, this joke of a man, a man who couldn’t outwit a used tea bag, in a position of authority where he could wipe out an entire crew? Who? Only a yoghurt.

– Kryten

What is the best thing about you?
My honesty. No, seriously 😉

What is your favourite song in the whole world and why?
Oh dear this is impossible for me to answer honestly, because I will actually feel guilty if I choose me song over all the others. I will therefore just pick one of my all time favourite songs and list it here and now…

Etta James: At Last. It never ceases to make me feel good. I find the melody and strings utterly sublime. If I had to define the feeling of ‘love’ as a piece of music, it would be the sound of this song.

If you were invisible, where would you go?
Ok so we’ll pretend I wouldn’t use my power of invisibility to look at naked girls so let me think… I would probably go all X-Files and sneak in to top secret places like Area 51 and stuff!

What is your favourite way to relax?
I’m really not sure about this one. I don’t really have a ‘go to’ relaxation technique. If I want to relax mentally I enjoy playing some games on my PS3, otherwise if I want to relax physically I would probably lie down and read.

What was the last film that really moved / disturbed / thrilled you and why?
I think I would have to say Atonement, though it’s been over a year since I watched it! (I’ve not read the book so can I say a film based on a book?!). I didn’t really know what it was about and thought it was just a love story but obviously I was wrong! I can’t think of another film that’s left me feeling quite the way that film did. Moved doesn’t half cover it.

What book are you reading right now?
A Song of Fire and Ice: A Dance with Dragons I: Dreams and Dust.
Technically I think the 5th book in the series (otherwise known as A Game of Thrones) but currently printed as the 6th physical book. I’ve only just started it actually but I’m enjoying the series. I can’t deny it’s fairly tough going though simply keeping track of all the characters! I’m also a little worried George R. R. Martin might do a bit of a Robert Jordan and draw the whole thing out for far too long. I have no intention of reading dozens of bloody books George! I want a story, not a soap opera!

If you could have any animal / creature, what would be your ultimate pet?
If you know me, you’ll know the answer to this one!
I would have a Cornucopia of Capybaras! (I so hope that’s the plural but I doubt it somehow!) Just look at them!
*dies in a heap of warm fuzzy awwwwww!*

When was the last time you cried laughing and why?
Today, when someone linked to Damn You Autocorrect. I didn’t realise it was a constantly updated site so I’d not seen loads of the entries before. Always has me choking with laughter!

My nominees will certainly not number 11 as I don’t interact with that many blogs in the first place! So let’s take that 11 and divide it by 11 to get 1, and here it is! Also I’m going to be lazy and just give him the same questions I’ve answered here!
